• I had no mushrooms so used frozen sliced carrots instead plus 3 small onions and because I only had silverskin onions, I increased those too. Result? Fabulous!!! no doubt at all that this is a family favourite and will be made for as long as I can buy Homepride Beef in Ale sauce.

• If, like me, you find yourself without mushrooms then add frozen sliced carrots and some onion to the pan while the meat is cooking. Also warm the sauce before putting it in the oven. This was the sweetest casserole I've had in my life and I will certainly be making it again. My husband loved it and gave me 15 out of 10!!!!!

• This sounds lovely, i was wondering what to cook at the weekend, i think ive just found it. I was wondering if instead of adding dumplings on top then to add stuffing balls for a change.
