For an easy way to serve the perfect sausage and mash try adding Homepride Barbecue Cook–in-Sauce to some cooked onions and sausages and serve with a portion of mashed potato.

Serves 4

What you need

  • 1tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced thinly
  • 8 Sausages, grilled
  • 1 can Homepride Barbecue Cook–in-Sauce
  • 4 portions of mashed potato, your recipe or shop bought
  • non-stick frying pan

How to make it

  1. Heat the oil in a pan and gently fry the onions for 5 minutes until they are soft.
  2. Add the grilled sausages and pour over the Homepride Barbecue Cook–in-Sauce and mix well.
  3. Bring the sauce to the boil and then simmer gently for 5 minutes until the sauce is piping hot.
  4. Serve the sausages with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables of your choice.

Hints and tips

  • For a vegetarian option try using some Quorn sausages.
  • For a quick and easy ‘toad in the hole’ style version of this recipe serve the sausage and mash in a giant individual Yorkshire pudding.

  • Adding grated apple to the mash is lovely with sausages or pork also.. Skining raw sausages and mix together with mashed potatoes, form into balls, dip in a beaten egg and coated with flour or bread crumbs makes great sausage balls for a tea time treat for the kids, great to take on picnics too, I add chopped chillies or chives for my son..
