Tasty potato pancakes can be served with a roast dinner and Bisto Gravy which makes a delicious change to mashed or roast potatoes. Just make a pancake batter with grated potatoes, onions, flour and an egg then season with salt and pepper and fry off until crispy in a non-stick pan. Also fantastic served with crème fraîche.
Serves 4
What you need
- 5 large floury potatoes, such as Desiree or King Edward
- 1 onion, peeled and grated
- 25g plain flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- salt and black pepper
- vegetable oil, for frying
- Bisto Gravy, made up as directed on the pack
- non-stick frying pan
How to make it
- Peel the potatoes and then using a grater finely grate the potatoes using smallest holes.
- Place the grated potato into a clean tea towel and squeeze out any excess water.
- Place the potato into a mixing bowl and then add the grated onion, flour, egg and seasoning and mix well. The consistency should be thick enough to scoop it out with a spoon.
- Heat an oiled pan until hot and then add a few spoonful’s of the pancake mixture and fry them on both sides until the pancakes become slight crispy. Repeat until all of the mixture is used up.
- Serve hot with roast meat and vegetables of your choice and some hot Bisto Gravy.
Hints and tips
- I love to make my pancakes spicier so always add some garlic puree and paprika.
- Make the pancakes whatever size you prefer.
